Plan Commission approves Englewood TIF expansion

At its meeting on Sept. 19, 2013, the Chicago Plan Commission approved an expansion of two Englewood tax-increment financing (TIF) districts, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The associated TIF funding will help pay for Norfolk Southern to grow its current railroad yard. Residents and community groups had protested the growth, saying it would create too much air and noise pollution, as reported by Inside Chicago Government.

In response, Norfolk Southern agreed to cut the pollution spewed by its train engines and other equipment at the yard.
