Congresswoman Kelly's possible Senate future marred by past scrutiny

While wishing for a senatorial future, Congresswoman Robin Kelly might hope to downplay a part of her governmental past.

Representing Illinois' Second District in the U.S. House of Representatives, Kelly aims to become the Illinois Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate as the primary elections approach.

During Kelly's 2013 campaign for the congressional seat, a state watchdog said she'd violated work rules dozens of times—by misusing time-off benefits while employed in the Illinois Treasurer's office in 2009 and 2010.

The time-off irregularities occurred when Kelly was campaigning for election to become the state treasurer.

The treasurer's inspector general recommended discipline for Kelly—but she'd already resigned.
