A report by the Better Government Association (BGA) says Clerk of the Circuit Court Dorothy Brown tried—and failed—to hike revenues for a government office that's "as bad as a bureaucracy gets."
Brown reportedly sought state legislation that would let her office raise fees for certain court filings. At least one associated legislative bill, HB2327, was sponsored by Rep. Al Riley (38th) of the south suburbs.
In their report, the BGA authors describe Brown's workforce as "friends and political supporters" whom visitors can find "standing around, more interested in talking to one another than helping long lines of customers."
