March marvel: unruly council pulls rules

In a discussion by journalists Dave Glowacz and Ben Joravsky, Dave and Ben listened to and evaluated audio from a special meeting of the full Chicago City Council that took place on March 30, 2023—wherein aldermen expanded the number of council committees from 19 to 28, exerting control in advance of a new mayor.

In the standard version of the episode, Dave played audio of aldermen speaking against the new committees and related rules.

In the premium version of the episode, audio featured aldermen who spoke in favor of the new committees and rules, with adamant arguments against those of their opposing colleagues.

The premium version also demystifies why some members said that the council must vote on the new committee structure again—after newly elected aldermen are in place.

Length 11.2 minutes standard, 40.3 minutes premium.
