26th district candidates face off (sort of)

This is an audio recording of presentations by Democratic-primary candidates for the state 26th representative district: the incumbent Christian Mitchell and challenger Jhatayn "Jay" Travis. It took place on 3/12/14 at CivicLab, organized by Chicago Votes.

The presentations were part of a forum featuring two sets of candidates in the March 2014 Democratic primary for Illinois House of Representative seats: for the 26th district, which spans the south lakefront and the Southeast Side; and the 39th district, which covers the North Side neighborhoods of Humboldt Park, Logan Square, Portage Park, and Belmont-Cragin.

Attendees had hoped for a lively exchange between each of the two sets of candidates, but it didn't happen.

Twenty-sixth district Rep. Mitchell arrived lateā€”and left early, before challenger Travis spoke. And 39th district Rep. Maria "Toni" Berrios did not attend. ("She stood us up," said a Chicago Votes organizer.)

Thirty-ninth district challenger Will Guzzardi did speak at the forum. But given that his opponent didn't, we've excluded Guzzardi's remarks from the accompanying audio to focus it on the 26th district. (Length 59 minutes.)
