In an audio excerpt, Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi talked about sinking property assessments of office buildings in Chicago's central business district—and the impact of tax-increment financing (TIF).

Kaegi was responding to concerns that, because large downtown office buildings are decreasing in value, those buildings would pay less in property taxes to local governments. But, he revealed, Chicago's TIF districts can change that equation in a positive way.

Kaegi's remarks come from an interview at the City Club of Chicago on Sept. 5 2024.
